New Executive Director

Welcome Laban DeFriese

Laban DeFriese – Executive Director

HYSA is pleased to announce the hiring of Laban DeFriese as our Executive Director.  Originally from Chattanooga, TN, Mr. DeFriese has lived in the Nashville area for the last 16 years.  He holds a Law Degree from the John Marshall School of Law and a Masters Degree in Public Administration from UT Chattanooga.

Upon arriving in Nashville in 1998, Mr. DeFriese worked for KRB Music Companies as the Director of Business and Legal Affairs. During his time there, he managed the departments involving intellectual property, licensing, human resources, and all legal and business affairs.  Within this, he was the lead on several successful acquisitions and mergers within and outside the music industry for KRB.

In soccer, Mr. DeFriese possesses a Director of Coaching Diploma from the National Coaches Association and USSF “B” License from US Soccer.  In 1998, he was an early member of newly formed TNFC in Franklin, TN serving on multiple volunteer committees and coaching.

In 2006, he founded and served as Director of Coaching, the successful Impact USA soccer club in Williamson County and successfully merged that club in 2009 into TNFC.  Serving as the Technical Director at TNFC, in Spring 2013, he was instrumental in merging TNFC with the Brentwood Soccer Club to form TSC.

At TSC, Mr. DeFriese served as the Director of Team and Player Development.  The focus being on development and implementation of an age appropriate player curriculum, as well as overall team development in a player pool system in the younger academies.

Over his 25 years in soccer, Mr. DeFriese has developed some of TN’s best soccer teams (including winning Fourteen (14) D1 TN State Championships and Two (D2) TN State Championships.

His most recent ’98 girls won the last two (2) Region III Championships and went all the way to the National Championship Game in 2013 as u14 girls.  Four (4) players from that team were named Region III ODP and one (1) player was recently named to the (u17) Women’s National Team.  His ’83, ’85, ’88, and ’91 teams were all multiple State Championship winning teams and placed a majority of those players in college on Athletic scholarships.

We are very excited to have Mr. DeFriese as our Executive Director and look forward to the wealth of experience he brings to HYSA.
